Lifting slings are usually made of nylon or polyester and are attached to cranes in order to help with the process of lifting. Slings need to be used in the right way in order to be safe and efficient for all of your lifting processes. Here are some of the essential things to remember when using slings:
- Make sure you are using slings with the right capacity. Slings will be colour coded depending on the amount of weight they can take. Make sure you are using the appropriate slings at all times.
- Train staff in using slings and cranes fully. This will include identifying the right sling to use, attaching the sling and putting a load into it. All new members of staff will need training and existing members of staff will need their training refreshing too.
- Replace slings regularly. Remember that slings take heavy loads and that they might be easily damaged.
