Using an Appropriate Lifting Sling
Lifting slings are used alongside cranes and lifting equipment to provide a way of supporting the load. The load will be placed directly into the sling, so the sling’s job is to lift it up safely and accurately, whilst also ensuring that the process is made simple for the person carrying out the work. If you choose a good quality lifting sling, the battle is already in part won because you know you can rely on it not to break straight away.
The other important thing to ensure is that you have selected the right size sling for the process. Check the load capacity so there can be no doubt or ambiguity, then make sure the person completing the lift knows exactly what they are doing and has any backup they might need. Always check slings over before using them, checking their structure to ensure there is no obvious damage.
